Modern Bedding

Friday, August 19th, 2011

Bedding styles have changed over time and the traditional double bed with two pillows and a bedspread looks a bit outdated. Most modern bedding consists of quilts or comforters as the primary bed covering instead of a bedspread and the pillows which were once hidden under the bedspread are now front and center as a focal point on the bed, along with throws draped at the foot of the bed or tossed casually over a chair laden with pillows.

Beds have also gotten bigger; kids once slept exclusively in twin beds but there is a move to using a full or double bed in kids rooms while the queen or king size bed has become the standard for many master bedrooms and the California King bed has become very popular – big beds for big houses may be a part of the “bigger is better” look in bedding.

Bigger beds also mean more bedding since it’s not likely you have a spare set of California King sheets as hand-me-downs or an extra comforter large enough for a king-size bed. While larger beds have become more popular, many local stores don’t carry a full range of bedding choices in all bed sizes – shopping online is a great way to get the selection you desire and the sizes you need. It also makes sense to invest in a bed ensemble when buying new bedding since all the design work has been done for you so that each component coordinates perfectly and the total look is pulled together and professional.
